Mindfulness is crucial in improving and maturing people's mental and emotional state. It allows people to be more objective and rational in their thoughts and feelings.
The Importance Of Mindfulness
This is because instead of being on autopilot, people will be more aware of their thoughts and feelings, thus enabling them to pause and evaluate whether their decisions are right or wrong and whether they're sensible or not.

This makes people more rational, logical, and less emotional. They are able to apply more of their common sense during their daily interactions with others and in making decisions.
This ultimately leads to a more positive, satisfying life, as these people will make less hasty, irrational choices and decisions.
Able To Be More Present-Minded
In relation to these effects, mindfulness also reduces peoples' impulsive and greedy tendencies, as they will generally be more focused on the present moment.
This present-mindedness naturally develops feelings of gratitude in people towards their very existence, as well as the good things in their lives at that precise moment.
Such feelings of gratitude and thankfulness eventually begin to erode any strong impulsive or greedy tendencies people may have.
If There’s Ever A Group Of People Who Need To Be Mindful, It’s Our Leaders
In terms of our political leaders, if they practiced mindfulness, our world would definitely be much better and more peaceful than it currently is.
Throughout human history up till the present day, most man-related wars, conflict, destruction and suffering have been due to mankind's greed and emotions. And it appears we still haven't learned.
However, if mindfulness is emphasized in leadership and government positions, our leaders will tend to behave more responsibly and prioritize the people's interests over their own personal agendas.
How Mindfulness Protects Society As A Whole
In the context of politics and society, a society that's generally more mindful wouldn't be so easy to be manipulated and deceived by politicians and other society leaders.
For too long, in attempts to gain votes, achieve and/or remain in power, politicians have been spreading propaganda and manipulating the people into supporting them.
In most cases, these propaganda are racial, religious, and nationalistic in nature. Essentially, these politicians prey upon people's socioeconomic insecurities.
But if most of the people in society were more mindful, their sense of rationality would trump their emotions, and therefore, they would be more aware and better able to discern any rhetoric or propaganda being spewed by their leaders for their own political agendas.
As a result, such a society would tend to vote for leaders who are more honest and truly prioritize the common people's wellbeing, instead of their greed.
We Need More Rationality Over Emotion
In general, humans tend to give in more to their emotions, than rational and logical thinking.
But as with most things in life, there should always be a healthy balance between the two; and in this particular case, more often than not, more rational thinking over emotion is indeed essential for humans to survive and thrive as a species. And one of the best ways to be more rational is by practicing mindfulness.
It can't be denied that mindfulness is indeed essential for a truly better world.
