Welcome to my newsletter! I’m Raveen, a 32-year-old from Malaysia.

Why I Started This Newsletter & What My Goals Are

I started this newsletter as I’m heavily passionate about social, socioeconomic, political, environmental and mental health issues. Our system itself is the true root cause for these serious problems, and I feel the need to express myself on these issues through writing as it helps me better process my strong feelings.

Every week, I’ll be posting insightful, thought-provoking articles right here on a variety of topics. Through my articles, my sincere hope is that readers like yourself will:

• gain crucial awareness about these type of serious systemic problems and the important ways we can fix them,

• get exposed to perspectives (especially a uniquely Malaysian perspective) and narratives about our entire system other than what the ruling class and mainstream media propagate, and

• get inspired enough to collectively pressure your leaders to seriously address these systemic problems and create a truly fairer, more just system that prioritizes the needs and well-being of the common people.

A Brief Dive Into My Background

I have an interest in reading both fiction and non-fiction novels. I enjoy playing badminton, running, playing computer games, and watching movies.

Currently, most of my time is spent writing articles and working on my blogs. I started blogging on both Medium and Substack in October 2023 and have been steadily doing so ever since.

An Interest In Social Justice Since Young

Throughout my life, I have taken part in various social justice as well as awareness campaigns and protests in regards to the various serious, systemic problems in my country. My parents were a huge influence on me in this regard as they themselves have been heavily involved in such social work for quite a long time now.

Some main examples of the campaigns and protests I’ve been involved with include those regarding clean and fair elections, the destruction of forests, workers’ rights, eviction against small farmers, harmful international trade deals, the privatization of healthcare draconian laws, etc.

Volunteering For Certain Causes

For a certain period, I also volunteered for a local soup kitchen program as well as weekly tuition classes that were organized by the local church.

Pushing For Important Changes In My Neighbourhood

Besides that, I have also taken up and resolved certain local council issues affecting my neighbourhood with the relevant state government agencies.

Writing Press Articles To Raise Awareness

For almost all of my articles, I’ve submitted them to various government ministries and departments in the form of complaints and feedback. I’ve also sent them to news editors and they have been published in certain news outlets in Malaysia.
